Postgraduate Certificate in Transpersonal and Integrative Couple Counselling and Psychotherapy

The aims of the programmme

The aims of the one year programme are to:
> provide a training for experienced counsellors or psychotherapists in the theory, skills and practice of work with traditional and non-traditional couples;
> provide a grounding in psychosynthesis models and practice for those qualified in other modalities;
> develop the professional maturity and competence required of a practitioner working with couples.

Programme Structure

The programme is divided into two semesters over the year with five components:

Component 1 Transpersonal Perspectives On Working With Couples
Focus of the component: to introduce couple works and explore how psychosynthesis and transpersonal approaches compare with other models.
   
Component 2 Intersubjective Psychosynthesis
Focus of the component: applying the theories, models, techniques, skills and interventions in practice situations with other students within an ethical framework.
   
Component 3 Diversity and Social Contexts
Focus of the component: the appreciation of contemporary social and cultural contexts and how these affect the philosophy, practice and ethics of work with different types and couples
   
Component 4 Clinical Practice
Focus of the component: the gaining of personal experience in developing a couple practice with reflective learning supported through supervision.
   
Component 5 Professional and Personal Development
Focus of the component: the psychological, emotional and soul journey towards personal and professional confidence, maturity and competence making use of the transpersonal and integrative model of couples work.

> The history and development of therapeutic work with couples
> The differences between work with individuals, couples and families
> Comparative models of couples work: psychodynamic, systemic, humanistic and behavioural
> Transpersonal perspectives on couples work
> The couple as a developmental relationship and as a sacred space
> Diagnosis of psychopathology and spiritual crisis
> The intersubjective space
> Strategies and approaches in working with couples
> The art of phenomenological observation and 'seeing with the heart'
> The drama triangle
> Transference and Countertransference in couples work
> The erotic transference
> Race, sexual orientation and diversity in a multi-cultural context
> Intercultural and sexual-identity affirmative approaches
> Ethics, boundaries and safe contracting

Entry Requirements:

Graduates or equivalent, and counsellor with 450 clinical hours.

Completion of the Postgraduate Certificate:

A certificate of study will be awarded upon the successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Transpersonal and Integrative Couple Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Format:

Whilst we aim to be flexible as possible to enable participants to attend the programme, our flexibility depends on the number of students applying for the programme.
